The season kicked off this weekend with all 3 teams in action in the GMCL League. On Saturday At Winton the 1st team posted 224, deputy pro Calvin Savage the mainstay of innings with 76. Todd Casey batted well at top of the order for 47. A number of other players also chipped in. However, with some small boundaries one side & good batting surface it wasn’t foregone conclusion at tea! The game was in the balance for nearly the whole of Winton innings who eventually with 3 overs to go gave up, and batted out thus ensuring themselves one solitary point. Jack O’ Brien & Jehangir Ali were pick of bowlers with 3-46 off 14 and 2-25 off 10 respectively.

Over at the Den on Saturday, the 2nd team posted 154-9 off their 45 overs, with Jack Ryder 36 & Danny Creer 32 the mainstay of the innings in what was a respectable total. Ryan Edge and Matt Garner picked up 3 wickets each as Unsworth remained on top throughout, easing to victory by 58 runs.

On Sunday the 3rd team were not able to complete a hat-rick of wins, despite bowling the opposition out for just 103, Matthew Gilmore’s 4-16 pick of bowling. In reply only Michael Earnshaw 29, got to grips with oppositions bowlers, but his effort was all in vein. Thanks to this weekend’s match ball sponsors, Earnshaws on Saturday & Steve Judge on Sunday. Next Saturday sees first team at home to Woodhouses, please come and watch, its your first change to see South African International Cricketer Mangaliso Moshele!
