Saturday June 17th saw both the 1st and 2nd team win on the same day for the first team since first weekend of the season! In glorious sunshine the 1st team posted 166-9 at Stretford batting their full 50 overs in the process. Stand in professional Von Berg was mainstay of innings with 60, and 6 other players scored between 10 and 22. It was a tricky wicket with plenty in for the bowlers so certainly a defendable score. Despite Stretford’s overseas batting right through for a well contstructed 72* Unsworth bowlers were able to take wickets at regular intervals, the stand in professional coming to the fore again, this time with 6 wickets. As in the batting innings others chipped in too, 4 different bowlers picking up a wicket a piece. Streford were bowled out for 139, a much needed win for Unsworth.

In glorious sunshine at the Den the 2nd team’s innings followed a similar pattern. They posted 169 as opposed to 166, losing their last wicket in the last over of the innings, Liam Brady 51 & Danny Creer 34 provided the backbone the innings. Again the home team felt this was about par at tea time given the conditions. Martin Browne and his possy of friends, family members & work colleagues were down sponsoring the match enjoying the sunshine! The total proved too much for Greenfield who limped to 70 all out, Matt Garner with 3 wickets for 2 runs was the pick of the bowlers. Thanks again to Barnfather Solicitors, criminal defence firm based in Manchester for the match sponsorship ( They specialise in financial crime, fraud and Regulatory investigations, and defending directors of small & medium enterprises. Steve Bailey was the match ball sponsor, thanks to him too, just ahead of his band doing their comeback gig at the club on Saturday night!
