Weekend just gone saw 2 league losses on Saturday for 1st & 2nd teams with a narrow exciting win for the 3s on Sunday.

Saturday at the Den saw Unsworth host top of the table Greenmount, Steve Judge & Todd Casey with 25 & 39 respectively made sure home side got off to a good start with opening stand of 57. Aman Arora, 41 also continued the good work and the team were well placed at 144-3 in 39th over. Unfortunately a flurry of wickets fell and home side ended up with just 170, when in reality should have passed 200. That was to cost side dear! Ian Hall, as usual bowled well up front for Unsworth and Andy McGuinness took a number of wickets in the latter overs of Greenmount’s reply. Both ended up with 4 wickets a piece for less than 30 runs. The last pair came together with scored on 159 and saw Greenmount home with 2 balls to spare. A cracking game of cricket, but Unsworth on the wrong side of result. Thanks to John & Janet Phair for ball sponsor.

The 2nd team was also defeated unfortunately, away to Flowery Field. They again posted a respectable score, 187 in this case for loss of just 6 wickets. Liam Brady’s 47 continued his fine recent good form and provided backbone of innings. Steve Earnshaw 29, and the returning Simon Hetherington, 21* from 14 balls also contributed well, welcome back Simon! In reply Flowery Field were always ahead of the rate and although lost wickets looked in control, they eased to their target with 11 overs remaining for loss of 6 wickets- Steve Earnshaw 2-32 was pick of Unsworth’s bowlers

The 3rd team produced the only senior victory of the weekend, posting 100 at Whalley Range, extras with 28 top score! Whalley Range lost their first wicket at 69, so looked in total control but you never know in cricket! Mike Earnshaw had a rare bowl and his 5 for 21 proved the telling contribution and ensured Unsworth were victorious by just 3 runs! It is also worth mentioning the 1st team lost narrowly on Friday night in 20/20 competition to Bamford Fieldhouse in the last over, thanks to Peter Yorke Robinson for ball sponsor, 131 runs want quite enough!
