The last fortnight has witnessed 3 narrow losses for 1st team, and a win and defeat for 2nds.

Saturday July 1st saw first team visit Flowery Field, stand in professional Harvey Hosein scored an impressive 108* out of a total of 266 for 8. Jengy with 39 was also in good form, in a typically quickfire innings. Unfortunately the team lost in penultimate over, definitely the highest chase against them in the GMCL! Over at the Den, Unsworth hosted Rochdale Catholic Club 1st team who were far too good and romped home by 10 wickets. Thanks to Casey family for ball sponsor. Sunday 2nd saw the 1st team host Denton West in the quarter final of the cup. The home team posted a creditable 172 in tricky batting conditions, again with professional Hosein the stand out bat with 75. In reply the game looked like it could go either way, with Denton’s professional eventually seeing the team home with an over to spare. Jack O Brien & Leighton Friend pick of bowlers with 2 wickets apiece. Thanks to Wilton Cad Services, Mike Boothroyd’s company for ball sponsor again!

Saturday July 8th proved a similar story for the first team posting another competitive total, this time 198. Leighton Friend, Aman Arora and professional Hosein with scores above 30, but nobody able to push on! This time the game went to the last ball, Winton were victors despite some good bowling from Jengy & Ian Hall towards the back end of the innings, another frustrating narrow loss, the 4th in a row by opponents with less than 10 balls to spare! Thanks to O’Brien family for ball sponsorship. The 2nd team consolidated their mid table position with a win over South West Manchester. 217 proved more than enough runs, Steve Earnshaw 58, Jack Ryder 51 & Liam Brady continuing his good recent form, with 41 proving the backbone of the batting. The opposition managed 184 all out with Steve Earnshaw, Tom Earnshaw and Matt Garner picking up 2 wickets each. The 2nd team entertain Woodhouses this Saturday and 1st team are at home to Heywood Sunday, please come down and lend your support.
