Unsworth (CC) FC 3 Hough End 3 Pens (1-4)
In a game of this magnitude you have to start well and the Unsworth lads certainly did outplaying the opposition time and again with beautiful to watch link up play particularly between Oisin , Morgan and Lewis .
Time and again chances were created a Lewis pass finding Morgan jinking his way through to get a shot off , then the same lads again when a goal looked favourite but a desperate clearance was made .
Marcus got in on the act than running on to a Morgan pass , the latter looking imperious in his link up play . to back up our superior play with Hough End constantly on the back foot .
The goal did not come from this source however but an Oisin corner and Marcus getting on the end of it to make it 1-0
Morgan then found Marcus again and in fairness the softness of the pitch probably did not help as he screwed the ball across the goal .
It did have to be said that we looked like scoring every time we went forward and a fine Oisin pass split their defence and found the rampaging Marcus who shot sweetly into the roof of the net to underline our superiority in a superb first half .
That said we let ourselves down when from a corner their number six found space in our six yard box to get an undeserved goal when the game should really have been in the bag .It is these small margins that cost us in big games , none bigger than this and it gave Hough End the lifeline they needed to still be in the game .
The second half started with us creating far more chances again but once again the opportunity to make the challenge on the edge of our box was not taken and put us on the back foot and finished nicely to unbelievably take them level .
A lovely move between Oisin and Lewis was then finished in fine fashion by the latter after taking the ball on his chest and finishing with aplomb as the ball dropped down only to be adjudged to be offside .
One moment of magic from Morgan really deserved a goal when of his own making and wonderfully quick feet he wrapped his man inside out and shot but without reward .
The lead for Unsworth was taken once again with the magical Oisin finding Lewis and with a toe poke the ball finished in the bottom corner to the delight of the large crowd .
Not learning from previous mistakes a quick free kick found us out as , as a team we looked like statues for their man to score an undeserved equaliser .
A massive goal mouth scramble looked like we were going to get the winner in the final moments but it was not to be be.
The resulting penalty shoot out was won by Hough End who must be wondering how the hell they have made the final but small margins count in games and our lack of physicality sometimes finds us out and three mistakes individually and collectively have given the reward of a County Cup Final to Hough End
