In our final League match of the season we were up against the League Champions in Failsworth Dynamoes who have proved themselves to be worthy of being the elite team in a super League .
The starting eleven was amended to play in a different fashion having played a 4-2-3-1 against them in the past with some success but without the result , changing to a 4-1-4-1 and because of that Dan sat in front of the defence with a four of Marcus , Oisin , Jack and Lewis in front with Rowie up front .
From the start Unsworth took the game to the opposition with a number of great moves Marcus finding Lewis who tried to lob the keeper without success , then the lively Marcus pacing down the left to flash a shot across the keeper but wide of the post .
Against the run of chances Failsworth showed their class when Ben failed to follow the right midfielder who took his time to cross on to a fast moving attacker who again was not picked up to finish nicely .
Lewis then switched play from right to left to find Marcus who rounded the keeper but could not find the angle to slot home . That said Marcus was looking like his imperious best and also aggressive in winning the ball back if required .
Mark was then called on to make a great save when Rob and Joel were caught out not for the first time in picking up their man.
Rowie then got in the act running clear magically as he is more than able to do but he must learn to get more shots off to score more goals , it really does not matter if you miss the target when it is more important to get the shot off when able .
Dev then switched off failing to pick his man up and Failsworth took full advantage making it 2-0 and leaving the Unsworth boys with a really difficult task .
A bit of Oisin magic then put us deservedly back in the game running from deep for Rowie to put the ball in his path beating the offside trap perfectly to finish left foot across the keeper to make it 2-1 at half time despite the fact we should have been level from another chance from some really hard work off Marcus bullying his man to put in Lewis who side footed towards goal without success .
The start of the second half started badly when Rob was left 1.1 with the pacy Failsworth attacker who finished to make it an uphill task at 3-1 . The lads were up for it though .
A Marcus shot flew high over the goal before the latter found Lewis with an easy task to make it 3-2 .
Marcus then tormented the right fullback yet again to find Morgan to make it 3-3 and at this stage there would only be one winner if any team was to upstage the other .
Unfortunately it was not to be , even after Oisin put in Marcus with a quick free kick to miss the target and lastly Morgan found Oisin who put in Lewis and when victory was in sight we could not take advantage of our superior chances throughout the game but what a fantastic comeback against arguably the best side in the Greater Manchester Area .
As a learning point Unsworth must improve goals scored against the number of chances created and equally defend man to man far better defensively but overall this was a fantastic performance from Unsworth against a team we might meet one more time if we can beat Uppermill in the League Cup Quarter Final .
