Against old time rivals Whitworth who like ourselves are predominantly an U17 team we knew from the start we would have to match their commitment and work rate to be able to compete with them .
Without Quinn on County Cup duty and the absent Morgan we started well and the best move of the half was Oisin finding the lively Rowie up front who put in Joe only for the keeper to make a good save at the near post .
Having defended really well with the ever dependant Dan breaking up play really well in the hole in front of the back four we allowed ourselves to switch off and too square in the middle of the back four to allow their forward to easily beat the offside trap and get in behind us to finish nicely and make it 1-0 at half time in an evenly balanced game .
At half time we asked the 3-4 lads who were not playing even an average game to step up their game , not to allow ourselves to be too square defensively , for better talking using Whitworth as a good example especially their start to the game and also for better defensive work particularly in our left and right midfield areas .
We started a lot more brightly but despite this sadly we ended up 2-0 down when Luke deputising in goals made an understandable error but we hold our hat up to him for helping us out as our best understudy .
Hopefully this will be sorted by next weekend .
Our fightback started when we were awarded a penalty for pushing in the box and despite Oisin having a penalty saved last week up he stepped to give the keeper no chance .
From free kicks we asked Joel to step up front with his height and aggression and Dan to sit on the keeper to be the nuisance he is and this worked perfectly with a fine header to draw us level .
Oisin then had a fine effort saved from a free kick and just when you thought Lewis was going to put us in front he missed the target .
This was further punished when one of their midfielders ran with the ball deep into our box and shot high and wide of Luke for a fine third for Whitworth .
Again we were not to be outdone when Lewis beat the offside trap to make in 3-3 in what was a super game from two totally committed sides .
Apart from the comments at half time we have to stop giving the ball away cheaply especially in midfield , and my man of the match was Dan out for 3 weeks but one man who gets his foot in at all times , has that will to win in every game and who gets under the opposition skin with the way he keeps close to the opposition players and competes with a desire second to none . Rowie and Rob were not far behind .

Our biggest concern going into this game is whether we are physically up to it against a team made up predominantly of U18 players not our ability to play football the right way . There is also a distinct lack of talking amongst the team whilst on the pitch .
The lads started superbly with Josh between the sticks and the returning Morgan up front . We have to get a win under our belts and the decision turned out right with Morgan superb in the first half getting to the ball first , holding the ball up well until midfield runners supported him . It is a joy to watch him in this vein of form .
We retained the ball well and Chaddy were not able to combat our one touch football and sure enough Unsworth took the lead with Dev finding Jack who played the ball into the box for Luke to run onto and head easily into the goal .
Our lead did not last long with the ball being taken easily in a dangerous position rather than our lines being cleared and without a specialist keeper in nets and not cutting down the angles their attacker scored easily to make it an undeserved 1-1 at half time .
We must learn when to defend in the right places and cut out the mistakes leading to opposition goals and also concentrate as a team on our defensive duties from front to back . This was the half time team talk but to continue playing as they were as class should outshine physicality .
An early Quinn corner found Rob and Joel at the back post but the woodwork saved the opposition but this cannot be said for our next goal when Quinn found Dev whose delightful curling cross found Lewis in the six yard box to get the perfect touch with the outside of the boot to beat the keeper .
A great save from Ben and a fine Dev effort almost increased the scoring for both sides but K then found the ball in the box , knocked it over his head to Joe who expertly with his super feet knocked the ball in the air left foot to right foot and hit the ball on the volley to make it 3-1 and this is where it should be game over .
That is not the case with us at the moment though with Lewis and K ending up as wingers rather than tucking in and making our 5 man midfield difficult to get past and sure enough they scored again as we switched off to make it 3-2 .
In the final minutes we had a penalty but the keeper pulled off a super save down to his right and low in the corner to save from Oisin who had an absolutely superb first half .

In our final League match of the season we were up against the League Champions in Failsworth Dynamoes who have proved themselves to be worthy of being the elite team in a super League .
The starting eleven was amended to play in a different fashion having played a 4-2-3-1 against them in the past with some success but without the result , changing to a 4-1-4-1 and because of that Dan sat in front of the defence with a four of Marcus , Oisin , Jack and Lewis in front with Rowie up front .
From the start Unsworth took the game to the opposition with a number of great moves Marcus finding Lewis who tried to lob the keeper without success , then the lively Marcus pacing down the left to flash a shot across the keeper but wide of the post .

In our final match of the season which was effectively a Quarter Final League Tie against Uppermill it was the physicality and the brawn of our opponents that won the game and not fine overall play in a football sense . They won it with a desire to put their bodies on the line , to tackle at all costs , to foul when it justified taking one for the team not to concede, and to work together all over the pitch particularly when not in possession .

Their first goal was a case in point when the forwards switched off defensively and before you knew it from a throw in at the half way line an overlap was not picked up quickly enough and a free cross into the box game them the lead after we had had three or four gilt edged chances to take the lead .

With two last minute cry offs and one no show on top of Marcus being away and Ben carrying an injury it was inevitable that we would lack the quality needed to rival our opponents riding high on the back of last weeks cup win .
Well done to the lads that did turn up though who played well enough throughout with a bare eleven , Ben valiantly carrying his injury and Joe W playing his first full game for quite some time .
In the first half we had a few efforts one from Rowie and a good move starting with Dev passing to Joe who found Bens feet who put in Lewis to just miss the target .
Hough Ends first goal was a good finish from the right edge curling the ball left foot into the left of the goal . Their second goal was less so with a speculative effort beating Mark from 22 yards out .
